Melissa gave birth to seven puppies under a bridge. Some local people fed her initially until she and her puppies were taken to the safety of our shelter. Melissa was quite weak, frightened and disorientated because she did not understand what was happening to her – the reason – Melissa is totally blind. Now she is looking very well, a beautiful girl, who is really affectionate. She loves a cuddle and being stroked. She walks well on the lead but being blind Melissa might feel anxious in fussy or unfamiliar situations – so she would prefer a quiet rural home to busy city streets, and it would be easier for her if the layout of the house and garden was not constantly being changed. She has been with us over two years now so will need time to adjust. However she is wonderful with people, other dogs and cats, If you have had a blind dog previously or feel you can provide a gentle, loving home to a dog with this disability please contact us

All potential adopters will have to undergo a screening and home check process. This can take between 1-10 days dependant on available volunteers to perform your home check. All volunteers for ABLDR are unpaid and do this in their spare time whilst also holding down regular daytime jobs. Please be patient whilst we complete these checks. They are set to protect not only the dog but also you, the adopter, from adopting the wrong dog for your family. If you wish to adopt one of our lovely dogs please fill in an Adoption Application and our dog co-ordinator will be in contact with you very shortly to discuss your request. We aim to contact all new adoption applications within 24 hours and certainly within 48 hours.
