Leave A Legacy In Your Will
Leaving a legacy in your Will ensures your love for animals lives on after your passing. If, like us, you have had the immense pleasure of giving a home to an animal in need, you will know that small charities, like ourselves, rely heavily on donations to be able to continue doing what we do. Without that help we would not be able to save those animals that are in such need of help.
You can state what your legacy is to be used for or you can leave the legacy open so that funds will be used commonly. For instance, if you state exactly what to use the funds for, this is called a restricted donation and can only be used for that specific purpose. If you do not include instructions on what the funds are to be used for then it will be the Trustees responsibility to ensure your legacy is used to it’s utmost potential.
A gift in your Will to a charity is free from inheritance tax. If you leave more than 10% of your entire estate to charity, then the total amount of inheritance tax you pay reduces from 40% to 36%.
You can find out more about inheritance tax online at https://www.gov.uk/inheritance-tax.
How to include a legacy in your Will
Leaving a legacy in your Will to A Better Life Dog Rescue is simple – you can either:
1) Write a new Will
The simplest way is to write a new Will. Once written, any Wills made by the person in the past become null and void. In fact, most Wills will start by stating that you are writing a Will and that you are revoking previous Wills. Or
2) Update an existing Will
The other way is to write a codicil, which is a document used to make changes to an existing Will.
