Medium-sized, though she looks smaller because of her short little legs.

Mamie came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation where her owners were simply too overwhelmed to care for their dogs properly. When neighbours began to notice the conditions, they stepped in to help.

Mamie wasn’t alone there. She had her own little family — four adorable puppies and a bichon “husband.” Kind people from the neighbourhood and local rescuers helped by taking the puppies and the bichon male to safety. Sadly, the older, plain-looking mama was left behind. That’s when one of our rescuers stepped in and took her to safety.

And what a wonderful dog she turned out to be.

Mamie is incredibly sweet and gentle. She loves everyone she meets and happily follows her rescuers around wherever they go. She currently lives peacefully with seven cats — sometimes even sleeping cuddled up with them — and she also gets along beautifully with all their dogs.

She is a calm, low-energy girl: quiet, easygoing, and simply a joy to have around. They truly cannot praise her enough.

Mamie has also met plenty of children. The day her rescuer heard her story, she went straight to pick her up that very morning and took her to the school where she teaches. Mamie spent the whole day there until classes finished, happily soaking up attention from an entire school of children — and enjoying a few shared sandwiches along the way.

Mamie is a truly special little soul who deserves a loving home.
