This red-haired, beautiful and loving girl, Phoenix, was hit by a car some time ago and the owner brought her to the shelter as he couldn’t afford the cost of an operation. Immediately she was taken to the vet for surgery and a rod was placed on her broken femur. The bones of her pelvis had also been crushed and couldn’t be operated on so she had to be kept safe and quiet for weeks in the hope that the bones would weld themselves together. When she was taken back for an x-ray to see how the pelvic bones had healed, it was even better than the vet had expected: her body had accepted the rod and the pelvic bones had welded back together. She has been left with a limp which she will always have, but it causes her no pain and she she can walk, run and enjoy life!!! Phoenix also had a small ‘cherry’ on her eye. As soon as she had got over the leg surgery, she had another operation to remove the cherry – her eye is fine now. This poor girl is still only young and has been through enough! What she needs now is a loving family who will help her enjoy life to the full.

All potential adopters will have to undergo a screening and home check process. This can take between 1-10 days dependant on available volunteers to perform your home check. All volunteers for ABLDR are unpaid and do this in their spare time whilst also holding down regular daytime jobs. Please be patient whilst we complete these checks. They are set to protect not only the dog but also you, the adopter, from adopting the wrong dog for your family. If you wish to adopt one of our lovely dogs, please fill in an Adoption Application form and one of our adoption team will be in contact with you. We aim to contact all new adoption applications within 48 hours. (Initial contact may be made by email, so please check your email junk folder)
