Quite a sad story this one…For the last two years Rex was the companion of a disabled man who suffered from brittle bone disease and lived in a wheelchair. Rex was a stray at first and the man started feeding him in front of his house. In time he saw the dog’s calm nature and adopted him. Since then they kept each other company through thick and thin. The man was challenged all his life by his illness, lack of support from his family and financial problems but he never gave up the dog, until the day he died. When our rescuers heard of his sad death, they rushed round to find out what had happened to Rex – had already been thrown out onto the street where luckily somebody was feeding him bread and water and he hadn’t wandered away. They took him back to their house where he is now living with several dogs and cats – he is frightened of cats though so better in a home without them. Rex is a sweet, people loving dog, laid back and low energy. He loves the occasional play with the other dogs but mostly likes to keep to himself. We are looking for a quiet calm household for him as he prefers quiet – he is used to a wheelchair. He can go as an only pet or to keep company to a dog of same calm nature as his.

All potential adopters will have to undergo a screening and home check process. This can take between 1-10 days dependant on available volunteers to perform your home check. All volunteers for ABLDR are unpaid and do this in their spare time whilst also holding down regular daytime jobs. Please be patient whilst we complete these checks. They are set to protect not only the dog but also you, the adopter, from adopting the wrong dog for your family. If you wish to adopt one of our lovely dogs, please fill in an Adoption Application form and one of our adoption team will be in contact with you. We aim to contact all new adoption applications within 48 hours. (Initial contact may be made by email, so please check your email junk folder)
